The United States Department of Energy (DOE) published a report entitled 'The Use of LEDs in General Lighting Applications' on May 6, local time. This report records that the use of LEDs in ten lighting applications has saved energy.
This report counts the retrofit effects of LED lights for MR16 lights, and also includes 8 different types of lighting applications, including downlights, industrial and mining lighting, garage lighting, directional lighting, decorative lighting, panel lights, street lights, and Parking lot lighting. Now, these LEDs save 71 trillion British Thermal Units (BTU) annually in the above-mentioned applications. According to the US Department of Energy, this is equivalent to an energy cost of US$675 million.

2012 Energy Conservation and Energy Conservation Potential (Data from U.S. Department of Energy)
Currently, LED lighting only contributes 1% in energy saving, and its potential can reach 30% in energy saving. The report predicts that if all the lighting in the top ten applications in the United States uses LEDs as light sources, 3873 trillion British thermal units will be saved every year.
The research results show that 31% of retrofit lamps and 34% of directional lighting fixtures can be retrofitted and upgraded to make up for the energy shortage in many areas. The use of LED products in lighting applications will play a better role in energy saving, and the increase in its proportion will also better promote the energy saving of solid-state lighting (SSL).
The report of the Department of Energy shows that as of the end of 2012, 2% of the street lights in the United States had been transformed into LED street lights, totaling about 1 million, and energy saving 3.5 trillion British thermal units
