DOE releases annual Solid State Lighting R & D plan LED progress better than OLED

US Department of Energy (DOE)Has released its annual solid state lighting (SSL)Research and development plan. This year, the plan is divided into two documents: '2017 proposed research topics' and 'copy of 2017 proposed research topics'. The former briefly defines the specific fields that need more research in the solid-state lighting industry, while the latter includes the US Department of Energy's progress in efficacy and festivals. The US Department of Energy expects that by 2025, warm white LED can achieve similar performance as cold white LED, but the improvement of OLED performance is still behind expectations. US Department of Energy (DOE)Has released its annual solid state lighting (SSL)Research and development plan. This year, the plan is divided into two documents: '2017 proposed research topics' and 'copy of 2017 proposed research topics'. The former briefly defines the specific areas that need more research in the solid-state lighting industry, while the latter includes the U. S. Department of Energy's prediction of efficiency progress and energy conservation. This is the second time the US Department of Energy has changed the structure of research and development plans and reports. Since 2015, the agency has issued annual research and development plans. Prior to this, the agency issued a separate multi-year project plan (MYPP)And solid state lighting manufacturing roadmap. The copy of the proposed research topic in 2017 predicts energy conservation according to the current path of the solid-state lighting industry. According to the current industry path, the US Department of Energy said that LED transformation will save 42 quad of energy for the United States from 2015 to 2035. A quad is roughly equivalent to 293 terawatt-hours or 1 trillion British thermal units. The US Department of Energy also said that if the industry can achieve the Department of Energy's goal, the cumulative savings can reach 62 quad, and the other 20 quad is enough to provide electricity for 90 of households in the United States for one year. The figure shows the LED package efficiency prediction. Like many destructive innovations, the current performance of the color hybrid LED architecture is better than that of the current mainstream pc- The performance of LED architecture is low, but in the next few years, there will be the potential for leap-forward development. The 2017 research document shows that the difference between the efficacy of LED converted from cold white light and warm white phosphor is narrowing. The US Department of Energy said that by 2020, the typical 218lm/W cold white performance difference at the packaging level will be 10 lm/W. By 2025, the agency expects cold white performance to reach 240 lm/W, a gap of only 3 lm/W from warm white LED. The news of OLED industry is not so good. The US Department of Energy said that the OLED industry failed to crack the 100lm/W barrier outside the laboratory. As early as 2014, the US Department of Energy had expected such panels to be widely used now. The research paper went on to say that studying the efficiency decline in blue LED will remain a top priority. In addition, the agency pointed out that improvements in green, red and amber LEDs will also be crucial. The document further requires the downconverter to make progress, such as phosphors. The new plan also requires progress in systems or lamps. The agency expects lamps to reach 200 lm/W at the system level by 2020. In addition, the report also calls for new and novel shapes. LED drivers or power supplies also aim at higher efficiency and longer life.
