Last week, the National Symposium on optical materials was held at the China Institute of Metrology. In this seminar, optical materials experts from all over the country gathered to bring their new research results. On 17th day of this month, this year's Nobel Prize in Physics was announced. They awarded the Award to three scientists who invented energy-saving and environment-friendly high-brightness blue light emitting diodes. For a time, LED became a hot topic in the streets. In China, there are also many experts studying LED applications. In this seminar, LED application technology is also a hot topic. Although, now the LED lights have entered thousands of households, everyone is in contact almost every day. Like the Desheng Expressway that we often walk in and out of the city, there are all LED lights along the line. Many outdoor advertisements also use LED lights. The TV sets and computer displays at home are no longer heavy bodies, but also LED integration technology. Xu Shiqing, a professor at China Institute of Metrology, said: however, we are still studying whether LED can be applied to a wider field. At this seminar, some experts discussed whether LED optical technology can be applied to space tactics to achieve the effect of laser. Of course, this requires finding materials with higher precision and faster and more accurate transmission speed. In addition, some experts have studied the dielectric materials of LED. For example, Chen Daqin of the School of Materials and Environmental Engineering of Hangzhou University of Electronic Science and Technology is studying the dielectric materials of white LED. At present, rare earths are commonly used as materials for LED lamps, while Chen Daqin studies white ceramics as LED materials to reduce the use of rare earths. In addition, the seminar also discussed laser materials and technologies, microstructured optical functional materials, optical fibers and thin film materials, etc.
