The difference in lighting methods determines the essential difference between LED and traditional light sources, and also determines that LED has its own characteristics. First of all, LED is small in size, the size of a single high-power LED chip is generally only 1 mm², and with the packaging material outside, the diameter of an LED is usually only a few millimeters, the multi-chip mixed light LED is slightly larger in size because it integrates multiple LED chips. This brings high flexibility in the exterior design of lighting lamps. Monochromatic light of different colors can be obtained by using different luminescent materials. In addition, on the basis of blue-light chips, white LEDs with different color temperatures can be obtained by matching yellow-light phosphors, or three monochrome LED chips, red, green and blue, can be packaged into one LED, the corresponding optical design is used to realize the mixing of three-color light. Third, LED has long service life and fast response, and can be switched repeatedly. The life of high-power LED can reach more than 50 thousand hours under normal working conditions, and the response of LED is very fast, in addition, we can repeatedly switch the LED without harmful effects on its life or performance. This is very different from traditional light sources. If ordinary incandescent lamps are switched on and off repeatedly, their service life will drop rapidly; For ordinary fluorescent lamps, each switch will cause the loss of electrode emission materials, so frequent switch will also lead to a rapid decline in the service life of the lamp tube. For high-pressure gas discharge lamps, repeated switching will also have a very adverse effect on the electrodes of the lamps. Moreover, this type of light source cannot realize hot start, that is, after the lamp is turned off, it needs to be cooled for a certain time before it can be started again. Therefore, LED has unique advantages for some lighting effects that require repeated switching operation. Fourth, LED can realize rapid and diverse changes in light color. As mentioned above, red, green and blue monochrome LED chips are packaged together and the emitted three-color light is mixed to obtain white light. If we control the red, green and blue chips respectively, we can change the proportion of the three-color light in the output light, thus realizing the change of the output light color of the whole LED. In this way, an LED is like a color palette, which can allocate different colors of light according to different needs, which is impossible for traditional light sources. LED has fast response speed and is easy to control, so it can realize rapid and diverse changes in light color. We can use this characteristic of LED to construct many dynamic effects.
